In Association with Nasen

A modern and practical set of 52 cards for practising the use of similes with a great circle game for 2-13 players. Similes are expressions that compare one thing with another, and always include the words ‘as’ or ‘like’.

How to play a circle game: deal the cards equally between the players. One reads their card first. The person with the correct answer completes the statement aloud and takes both cards. For example: player 1 reads his/her card “As flat as a...”, the person with the word “pancake” must read their word aloud to win the hand. The winner is the person with the most cards once all the cards have been used.

You can easily extend this activity by asking students to invent similes of their own.

Sample similes in this pack are:

As cold as ice
As dark as night
As deaf as a post
As fresh as a daisy
As large as life
As light as air
As mad as a hatter
As nutty as a fruitcake
As proud as a peacock
As slow as a snail
