Vowel Digraph Trumps - Long e

A compulsive and competitive phonic trumps game for 2-4 players to help students read, spell and discriminate long 'e' sounds: 'ee', 'ea' and 'e_e'.

The game is for 2-4 players. The dealer splits the deck to decide which digraph is trumps, then deals the cards evenly to each player. A sample of the words the students must read:

eve
here
delete
lease
  cheat
speak
ordeal
teeth
  disagree
key
alley
money

One player leads a card and says the word aloud. Subsequent players lay a card in turn, saying their words aloud. Players must follow the digraph (suit) if possible, otherwise play a trump or throw a card of a different digraph.
